This Privacy Policy explains what information English.Guru collects and how it is used.
Locally stored data: your quiz progress, reading history, language preference, and learning plan inputs are stored in your browser and stay on your device. Taking the level test and getting a plan does not require sending any of it to us.
Your progress page: the first time you finish something — read a lesson, complete a quiz, or take the level test — your browser generates a random identifier and stores it alongside that record. It exists so this device can show you your own progress page listing what you have read, how your quizzes went, and your level-test result. It is not an account: it is generated in your browser, it is not linked to your name or email, we do not use it to track you across other sites, and it is not sent to us unless you choose to save your plan to a personal link. Clearing your browsing data removes it, along with the progress it names.
Saved learning plans: if you choose to save your plan to a personal link, that plan — including the level-test results it is built from — is stored on our servers so the link keeps working across devices. The link contains a random key; it is not connected to your name or email, and we do not list or index saved plans. Anyone holding the link can view the plan, so share it only with people you want to see it.
Voluntarily provided data: if you express interest in paid support or tutoring options, we ask for your email address.
Anonymized learning data: separately from any saved plan, we may store level-test results and quiz scores in an anonymous, aggregated form — not linked to your identity — to understand overall learning outcomes and improve our content, our learning plans, and the accuracy of the level test itself.
Email addresses submitted through interest forms are used solely to contact you about the service you expressed interest in. We do not sell your personal information.
The Service uses browser local storage to remember your preferences, your progress, and the random identifier described above. This data stays on your device unless you clear it.
We use a third-party analytics service to understand how the Service is used. This includes click and link tracking, accurate bounce-rate measurement, and session recording, which captures how visitors interact with pages — clicks, scrolling, and cursor movement — to help us improve the Service. This analytics service may set cookies and similar technologies and may process data outside your country of residence. We may also display third-party advertising on some parts of the Service, which may use cookies and similar technologies to select and measure ads.
Locally stored data remains on your device until you clear your browser storage. A saved plan remains available at its link until you delete it or ask us to remove it. Data you voluntarily submit, such as an email address, is retained until you request its deletion.
You may request access to, or deletion of, any personal data you have provided by contacting us. This includes any saved learning plan — send us its link and we will delete it.
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
